Srinagar, Jul 19 (KNO): Considered to be rich with water abundant resources, several parts of the valley are struggling with the potable water supply in the region.
Notably, the valley is presently witnessing scorching heat with mercury soaring above the normal temperature, leading to water scarcity in several parts of the valley.
Amidst the soaring temperature and humid weather conditions, the residents from Dyarawani area of Batamaloo on Friday staged a protest against the water scarcity in the area.
Several residents from the area told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that they have been struggling for days now for the availability of water in their area.
“Look at the soaring temperature and we don't have water to drink. Despite paying bills on time, we are not getting the required water supply,” a protesting lady said.
People protesting in the area, especially ladies amid scorching heat, blocked the road in a line, forcing the commuters to halt their vehicles.
The protestors said that the officials are not paying any heed to their pleas and that they have to wait till late night to have a glimpse of water.
"We are suffering, there is no availability of water and no one from authorities is concerned about our miseries. Where should we go,” said a protesting lady.
Meanwhile, seeking a response on the water scarcity issues, the concerned PHE official cited non-availability, saying they are out of station for a training workshop.
“I am out of station for a workshop, I will get the report from the field staff and will update you accordingly,” the official said.
Pertinently, in a similar protest over water crisis in North Kashmir's Mirgund area on Friday, the protest turned violent with reports of stone pelting, lathi charge and tear gas shelling in the area—(KNO)
